Perussuomalaiset
About
Perussuomalaiset (the Finns Party) was founded in 1995 as a successor to the Finnish Rural Party. After a major breakthrough in the 2011 elections, it became a permanent fixture in Finnish politics. Entering government in 2023 as part of a right-wing coalition with the National Coalition Party, the party holds key ministerial positions including the Finance Ministry. It advocates strict immigration policy, welfare-state reform, and conservative social values.
Wikipedia ↗Leadership
Riikka Purra has chaired the Finns Party since 2021 and serves as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister in the current Finnish government. An economist by training, she pushed the party toward firmer positions on immigration restriction and welfare-state reform. Her leadership marked a generational shift from longtime chairman Jussi Halla-aho.
