Democrats’ Gaza Genocide Claims Show Moral Bankruptcy

According to New York Post, figures ranging from Tucker Carlson on the right to Hasan Piker on the left have compared Israel’s actions to the Holocaust, though they acknowledge the scale differs. The comparison represents what the outlet characterizes as a perverse effort to accuse the Jewish state of the same atrocity that helped bring about its creation.

The accusation fails basic scrutiny. If Israel sought to eliminate Gaza’s entire population, it possesses the military capability to do so rapidly. Instead, the conflict has been an extended urban battle against entrenched Hamas forces.

Urban Warfare Always Proves Destructive

Combat in densely populated areas invariably produces massive destruction and civilian casualties. When Iraqi forces retook Mosul from ISIS in 2016 and 2017 with American air support, tens of thousands of buildings were damaged or destroyed, including an estimated eighty percent of the Old City.

During the Vietnam War, the Mekong Delta town of Bến Tre required air strikes, helicopter gunships, artillery and ground troops to dislodge Viet Cong forces during the 1968 Tet Offensive. Despite fighting lasting only days, the town suffered extensive damage.

The former imperial capital of Hue endured worse. Communist forces captured most of the city and fortified their positions, necessitating months of street-to-street combat. Approximately half the city was damaged or destroyed.

Historical precedent demonstrates that cities fare poorly when they become battlegrounds, whether Seoul and Pyongyang during the Korean War, Manila and Stalingrad during World War II, or Vicksburg and Charleston during the Civil War.

Normandy Invasion Killed Twenty Thousand French Civilians

Even the most celebrated military operations produce civilian casualties. The Allied invasion of Normandy resulted in twenty thousand French civilian deaths as cities including Rouen and Le Havre were subjected to intensive bombardment.

Gaza represents one of the most densely populated areas on Earth. Hamas spent years and enormous resources constructing tunnels and fortifications, transforming the territory into a heavily armed enclave difficult to overcome. The result has been a grinding, multi-year campaign to substantially degrade Hamas capabilities.

Harsh Statements Targeted Hamas, Not Civilians

Critics point to harsh statements from Israeli officials as evidence of genocidal intent, as New York Post reports. These statements, however, have typically targeted Hamas itself rather than Gaza’s general population.

If genocide were the objective, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would not have spent years attempting to accommodate Hamas in hopes of avoiding major conflict. The October 7 attack exposed this approach as a serious miscalculation.

Few societies, having endured the horrific crimes inflicted that day, would conclude that recovering hostages and responding militarily were impossible because urban combat would prove too destructive.

Hamas Deliberately Embedded Military Assets Among Civilians

Hamas deliberately intertwined its military infrastructure with civilian facilities, utilizing hospitals, mosques and schools for military purposes. Its fighters disguised themselves as medical personnel and journalists. The strategy aimed to maximize difficulty in targeting Hamas without collateral damage, creating grounds for war crimes accusations against Israel.

Military expert John Spencer notes that Israel employs measures to minimize civilian harm, including warnings via text messages, phone calls, leaflets and broadcasts. Israel opens safe corridors and pauses operations to allow civilian evacuation from combat zones. The military tracks civilian presence down to individual building levels.

The ultimate irony remains that Hamas itself harbors genocidal intent toward Jews. Yet the war against this terrorist organization is being weaponized to associate the Jewish state with one of history’s most monstrous crimes.
