Cristobal Liobardo Vasquez-Sanchez, 25, was arrested in Arlington County earlier this month on charges of sexual battery and attempted object sexual penetration, according to Breitbart News.

The victim was walking through a stairwell in a residential parking garage when Vasquez-Sanchez approached her, police said. Following a brief exchange, the illegal alien allegedly began inappropriately touching the woman.

The victim managed to flag down a bystander elsewhere in the parking garage to request help, at which point Vasquez-Sanchez fled the scene, authorities reported.

Extensive Criminal Background

At the time of his latest arrest, Vasquez-Sanchez had already accumulated prior arrests for rape, sexual assault, property damage, drug possession, and larceny. Despite this criminal history, he remained at large in the community.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are now seeking custody of the illegal alien, a Department of Homeland Security official confirmed to reporters.

Sanctuary Policies Under Fire

Lauren Bis, a DHS spokesperson, directly criticized Virginia’s sanctuary jurisdiction policies for enabling the suspect’s continued presence in American communities.

Sanctuary politicians released this criminal from jail back into Virginia communities, Bis stated, noting that Vasquez-Sanchez subsequently accumulated charges for rape and sexual assault.

Bis specifically targeted Governor Abigail Spanberger’s decision to end cooperation with ICE in Virginia, arguing that the policy has allowed dangerous criminals to be released back onto the streets. She accused the governor of allowing pedophiles, rapists, gang members, and murderers to remain free in Virginia communities while federal law enforcement officers risk their lives to apprehend them.

ICE Detainer Lodged

Vasquez-Sanchez remains in custody at Arlington County jail. ICE agents have lodged an immigration detainer against him, requesting notification and custody transfer should local authorities release him at any point.

The case highlights ongoing tensions between federal immigration enforcement and sanctuary jurisdictions that limit cooperation with ICE, particularly when suspects have significant criminal histories prior to committing new offenses.
