Vienna City Hall Shocks with Sexual Slogans on Children’s Popsicles

A Vienna children's event sparked outrage after distributing ice pops with sexually suggestive slogans like "Suck your thing" to children aged eight to thirteen.

The frozen treats featured slogans such as “Suck your thing,” “Sucking and licking allowed,” and “Only hard makes it fun.” The products were handed out during the free summer program “Wienopolis,” which ran from August 24 to 28 and targeted children aged eight to thirteen.

The event was designed as a simulated city where young participants could work, earn play money, elect a government, and establish their own rules. According to organizer WienXtra, the program focused on participation, democracy education, and community building.

Following public disclosure of the incident, WienXtra issued an apology to the children and their parents. In a statement, the organizer said the ice cream varieties with “suggestive and absolutely inadequate slogans” had been systematically removed throughout the week. However, toward the end of the event, the problematic products were mistakenly distributed. The organization also claimed the actual printed messages did not match the information WienXtra had received in advance. The statement described it as a “major error that must not happen” and said the slogans were incompatible with their standards for youth work.

The product in question is the “Sour Dragon Tongues Water Ice” made by German confectionery manufacturer Hitschies. The controversial prints have been under criticism since 2024 and remain available on packaging in regular retail channels. On its website, the manufacturer continues to promote the blue variety with the words “Suck your thing.”

FPÖ Accuses Officials of Child Sexualization

The Vienna chapter of the Freedom Party of Austria denounced the incident as a “disgust scandal” and demanded a complete investigation. Family spokeswoman Ricarda Berger called it a “psychological boundary violation of the highest order.” She argued that distributing such products appeared to be a deliberate attempt at desensitization and early sexualization of children.

Vienna FPÖ faction leader Maximilian Krauss also held the SPÖ city government, led by Mayor Michael Ludwig, accountable. He demanded clarification on how the products entered the event and who was responsible for the failed oversight. The City Hall must not become an “experimental laboratory for completely misplaced fantasies,” Krauss stated.

The Vienna branch of the Austrian People’s Party also voiced criticism. Family spokeswoman Sabine Keri demanded information about who selected and approved the products and whether a child protection concept exists. She emphasized that an apology alone was insufficient.
