US Offers Ukraine 15-Year Security Guarantee, Zelensky Says
Ukrainian President Zelensky revealed that the US plans to offer a 15-year security guarantee amid ongoing conflict, with Kyiv seeking potentially extended protection and joint Western military support.
In statements via WhatsApp, just hours after his significant meeting with President Trump at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Zelensky emphasized that he expressed Kyiv’s desire for guarantees extending up to 50 years.
“I brought up this issue with the president. I informed him that our war has been ongoing for nearly 15 years,” Zelensky said. He added, “We would very much like the guarantees to be longer and hope for a historic decision from Trump.”
Zelensky stated that Trump said he would “consider” the request. Although the details regarding the guarantees have not been made public, the Ukrainian president confirmed that they will include monitoring for violations of any peace agreement as well as a “presence” by the US and European countries.
According to information from the New York Post, the 20-point plan includes a coordinated military response from the US, NATO, and other European countries in the event that the Russian offensive restarts.
Putin has declared that he does not accept the presence of NATO forces in Ukraine.
