U.S. Launches Powerful Strikes on Iran After Trump Vows Action
The U.S. military struck dozens of Iranian Revolutionary Guard facilities Wednesday night in retaliation for Tehran's attempted ballistic missile attack on American forces in Jordan.
According to Breitbart News, U.S. Central Command announced that American forces had begun striking Iranian targets at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, characterizing the operation as a direct and powerful response to the previous day’s Iranian aggression against U.S. military personnel deployed throughout the Middle East.
By 10 p.m. Eastern Time, CENTCOM confirmed that its forces had successfully completed a substantial wave of strikes against the Islamic Republic. The operation targeted dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps facilities scattered across Iran, including military command centers, missile and drone production sites, coastal surveillance installations, defense positions, and maritime assets.
The command stated the strikes were designed to further reduce threats posed by Iran and its regional proxy forces to American troops, commercial shipping operations, and allied Gulf nations. CENTCOM emphasized that more than 50,000 U.S. service members remain positioned throughout the Middle East and are maintaining a state of high readiness.
The military action followed repeated warnings from President Trump throughout Wednesday that the United States would deliver severe consequences for Iran’s attempted attack. Speaking to Fox News on Wednesday morning, Trump used explicit language to describe the coming retaliation, stating that the United States would deliver a significant beating to the Iranian regime.
During subsequent remarks at the White House, Trump made clear that military retaliation was imminent and that Tehran was aware of what was coming. He confirmed that Iranian officials had been asking Washington not to proceed with strikes, but that the attempted missile attack meant it was now America’s turn to respond.
The strikes came in direct response to Tuesday’s attempted Iranian ballistic missile assault against U.S. forces in Jordan. CENTCOM reported that Iran fired five ballistic missiles in what military officials described as an attempted surprise attack, though all projectiles were successfully intercepted before reaching their intended targets.
In the hours immediately following the attempted missile strike, American and Saudi Arabian forces jointly launched strikes against Iran-backed militia positions in Iraq. CENTCOM stated those operations were conducted in response to a separate series of drone attacks targeting U.S. forces and Saudi infrastructure.
Iranian media reports cited by multiple international outlets indicated that explosions were heard across several locations in southern Iran, including Ahvaz, Sirik, and Nurabad in Fars Province. U.S. officials had not publicly disclosed the specific targets struck as of Wednesday evening.
Wednesday’s operation represented the first direct American strikes inside Iranian territory since Trump suspended the previous military campaign on Friday after 13 consecutive nights of attacks against Iranian military installations. That pause had created a brief window for potential diplomatic engagement.
As Breitbart News reports, Axios revealed on Sunday that CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper had recommended concluding the earlier bombing campaign around the Strait of Hormuz after determining it had substantially accomplished its military objectives. Cooper reportedly advised senior administration officials that most designated targets had been neutralized and that continued strikes would yield diminishing returns absent a decision to resume broader combat operations.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier Wednesday that the Trump administration had been evaluating military options ranging from targeted retaliation to an extensive air campaign aimed at severely degrading Iran’s ballistic missile infrastructure. Trump had not finalized the operational scope before Wednesday evening’s strikes commenced.
The renewed American military action marks the latest escalation in the intensifying confrontation between Washington and Tehran, following Iran’s attempted ballistic missile attack and a week of rapidly expanding military operations throughout the region.
