Trump Claims China Agreed Not to Send Arms to Iran—Xi Jinping to Welcome Him Warmly in Beijing
Former US President Trump claimed China agreed to halt arms shipments to Iran amid tensions and predicted a warm reception from Xi Jinping during their upcoming Beijing meeting.
Trump also claimed on Wednesday that Xi is “very happy” with his efforts to open the Strait of Hormuz, a day after officials in China condemned his embargo as “dangerous and irresponsible.”
“China is very pleased that I am permanently opening the Strait of Hormuz. I’m doing it for them — and for the world,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This situation will never happen again. They have agreed not to send weapons to Iran.”
“President Xi will give me a big hug when I get there in a few weeks,” he added. “We are working smart and very well! Isn’t that better than fighting??? BUT REMEMBER, we are VERY good at fighting, if necessary — much better than anyone else!!!”
Trump and Xi are expected to meet in Beijing on May 14-15.
This meeting had been postponed due to the war in Iran.
China, specifically, receives about 45–50% of its crude oil imports through the Strait of Hormuz.
The president revealed on his Fox News Business show Mornings with Maria that Xi sent him a letter regarding the issue of not sending weapons.
“Look, there has never been anyone tougher on China than me. But I also have a good relationship with President Xi, and that’s a good thing,” Trump said.
