About
Founded in 2004 as the legal successor to the dissolved Vlaams Blok, Vlaams Belang (VB) is Belgium's largest Flemish-nationalist and right-wing populist party. It combines demands for Flemish independence with strict immigration controls, traditional social values, and law-and-order priorities. Under Tom Van Grieken the party has become the single largest party in Flanders by vote share, yet mainstream Belgian parties have maintained a cordon sanitaire, excluding VB from government at most levels.
Wikipedia ↗Leadership
Tom Van Grieken has chaired Vlaams Belang since 2014. Born in 1986, he trained as a lawyer and modernized the party's public image while maintaining its core Flemish-nationalist and restrictionist positions. His steady leadership oversaw VB's transformation into a dominant electoral force in Flanders.
