GERB
About
GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) was founded in 2006 by then-Sofia mayor Boyko Borissov and quickly became Bulgaria's dominant center-right party. It has governed Bulgaria for much of the period since 2009, often in coalition arrangements. Ideologically pragmatic and pro-EU, GERB is aligned with the European People's Party in the European Parliament and has repeatedly returned to power despite recurring corruption controversies.
Wikipedia ↗Leadership
Boyko Borissov is a former firefighter, bodyguard, and national judo champion who entered politics as Sofia's police chief before becoming mayor. He has served as Prime Minister of Bulgaria three times and remains the dominant figure in Bulgarian center-right politics. His populist communication style and transactional approach to coalition building have kept him at the center of Bulgarian political life despite numerous legal investigations.
