Rabb Claims Founding Fathers Didn’t Understand Policing
Democratic congressional candidate Chris Rabb endorsed eliminating cash bail on Fox News and argued that 99 percent of police work could be handled by other professionals.
Chris Rabb, a Democratic U.S. House nominee, appeared on Fox News Channel’s Hannity program Wednesday evening where he was pressed on his positions regarding law enforcement and criminal justice reform, according to Breitbart News.
When host Sean Hannity directly asked whether Rabb supported eliminating cash bail and establishing a wealth tax, the candidate responded with a simple affirmative.
The exchange grew more contentious when Hannity pressed Rabb on whether he would support abolishing prisons and police departments entirely. Rather than offering a direct answer, Rabb launched into a historical tangent about the origins of policing in America.
Rabb argued that policing as an institution has evolved over time and suggested that the nation’s founders did not understand the term as it exists today. He then claimed that 99 percent of what police officers do could be handled by other trained professionals, effectively arguing for a wholesale reimagining of public safety without traditional law enforcement.
Hannity attempted to refocus the discussion on police who arrest dangerous criminals including rapists, child molesters, and drug dealers. Rabb deflected again, insisting that people performed such functions before the modern concept of police existed, and asked whether Hannity believed in sheriffs and state troopers.
When pressed on whether state troopers should be armed, Rabb stated he believes in the right to arm oneself, though his position on whether law enforcement specifically should carry weapons remained unclear from the exchange.
Notably, when asked directly if he wanted to defund the police, Rabb denied ever making such a statement, despite his earlier comments suggesting significant structural changes to American policing that would effectively eliminate the profession as currently constituted.
The interview highlights the ongoing tension within Democratic circles between progressive activists who seek to fundamentally transform or eliminate traditional policing and moderate voters who remain concerned about public safety and rising crime rates in many American cities.
