A poll showing Trump losing Latino support was funded by UnidosUS, a left-wing group that advocates for amnesty and has received millions from the Biden administration.

The survey, which was touted by Axios under the headline “Buyer’s remorse hits Trump’s Latino voters,” alleges that roughly one quarter of Latino respondents who backed Trump in previous elections would now decline to support him again, according to Breitbart News.

The polling effort was carried out by Shaw & Company Research alongside BSP Research, but the sponsor behind the numbers raises serious questions about objectivity. UnidosUS, previously operating under the name La Raza, is characterized by Influence Watch as a left-of-center Hispanic advocacy group with deep ties to progressive immigration activism.

A History of Open Borders Advocacy

UnidosUS has spent years championing policies designed to grant legal status to illegal aliens living in the United States. The organization threw its weight behind former President Barack Obama’s executive orders known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans, both of which sought to shield millions of illegal immigrants from deportation.

The group also backed the so-called DREAM Act and has consistently supported federal, state, and local initiatives aimed at shielding illegal immigrants from enforcement, particularly those arriving from Mexico and Central America.

Janet Murguía, president of UnidosUS, publicly attacked Trump’s 2017 decision to rescind DACA, calling it an effort to satisfy what she described as bigots within his political base.

Financial Ties to Biden Administration and George Soros

The organization’s ideological leanings are underscored by its financial backers. During Fiscal Years 2021 and 2022, the Biden administration funneled $35.9 million in federal contracts to UnidosUS. By contrast, both of Trump’s terms in office saw funding to the group slashed.

Additionally, the Open Society Foundations, controlled by billionaire progressive megadonor George Soros, contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to the UnidosUS Action Fund between 2019 and 2021.

Alignment with Black Lives Matter

UnidosUS has also publicly aligned itself with the Black Lives Matter movement. In the aftermath of George Floyd’s death in 2020, Murguía penned statements declaring that her organization shared the same struggle, or lucha, as the Black Lives Matter cause.

The poll in question was conducted between April 27 and May 14 and surveyed 3,000 registered voters nationwide.
