A man was arrested in Milan following a police intervention on allegations of sexual assault at the Lambrate bus station on Monday, May 19. The incident was initially reported by a bus driver who informed authorities of a suspicious situation in the area.

According to local reports, the intervention took place late in the afternoon, when police officers stationed at the transport hub were informed of a violent confrontation between a man and a woman at an isolated spot near the station. Police intervened, separated the couple, stopped the assault, and took statements from the victim.

The woman, a French national born in 1984, reportedly had just arrived from Linate Airport and was sitting with her luggage when the suspect approached, pretending he wanted to offer assistance. Investigators report that the situation escalated quickly, with physical violence and threats allegedly being used to force her away from the public space. Later, police confirmed that the man was arrested on the spot and taken into custody.

Authorities identified the suspect as C.I., a Nigerian man born in 2000, who was in Italy illegally. During the investigation, police officers found footage from security cameras that confirmed the testimonies of bystanders. Police stated that the victim received assistance from patrol units and the Women and Minors Protection Unit.

Officials noted further that the suspect had previous criminal convictions, including for theft, robbery, resistance to authority, as well as for alleged sexual violence in 2019. This case comes during a period of broader concerns over public safety in Italy. The previous week, in the northern city of Modena (Emilia-Romagna), a driver hit several pedestrians before colliding with a shop window. Authorities in that case reported that the suspect, a 31-year-old Italian of Moroccan origin, was allegedly acting at least in part under psychiatric distress.
