Morocco Deployed Agents to Ceuta Before Mass Incursion, Hackers Reveal
A hacker collective leaked personal data of 70,000 Moroccan intelligence officers and police in retaliation for last summer's organized migrant surge into Spain's Ceuta enclave.
The cyber activist group Jabaroot has released sensitive professional and personal information belonging to agents primarily affiliated with Morocco’s domestic intelligence agency, the DGST, and its General Directorate for National Security, according to The European Conservative. The leaked data also encompasses police officers and other security personnel across multiple departments.
Jabaroot explicitly framed the operation as a gift to Spain in response to the mass illegal entry that occurred on July 30th, when thousands of migrants stormed across the border into Ceuta in what Spanish authorities characterised as a coordinated action.
Former Moroccan intelligence operatives who examined portions of the leaked material have confirmed its authenticity, as reported by Spanish outlet El Confidencial.
Direct Accusations Against Moroccan Leadership
The hacker group went beyond simply releasing the data, levelling serious allegations directly at senior figures within the Moroccan state apparatus. Jabaroot accuses Abdellatif Hammouchi, who holds the dual role of leading both the DGST and DGSN, along with royal adviser Fouad Ali El Himma, of orchestrating the migratory assault on Ceuta.
The group claims to possess intelligence indicating that Moroccan agents were strategically positioned in Castillejos both prior to and during the border crisis, suggesting deliberate state involvement in facilitating the illegal crossings.
Context of the Ceuta Crisis
The July 30th incident marked a significant escalation in tensions between Madrid and Rabat, with thousands of migrants overwhelming Spanish border defences in what many analysts viewed as a form of hybrid warfare. The breach has now added a new dimension to the ongoing dispute, potentially exposing the inner workings of Morocco’s intelligence operations and the alleged coordination behind migratory pressure tactics.
The leak represents one of the largest compromises of a national security apparatus in recent years, with potentially significant implications for Morocco’s intelligence capabilities and bilateral relations with Spain.
