Kellogg: Iran Negotiating Team Should Not Be ‘Real Estate Guys’

Keith Kellogg, who served as National Security Adviser to former President Donald Trump and later as his special envoy, made the remarks during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s America Reports program on Monday, according to Breitbart News.

Kellogg argued that the composition of the negotiating team is fundamentally mismatched to the strategic environment, stating that real estate professionals have no business conducting diplomatic negotiations during wartime conditions. He emphasized the need for a hardened, experienced negotiator capable of operating effectively under pressure.

Call for Tougher Diplomatic Personnel

The former Trump official outlined approximately five key changes he believes should be implemented in the American strategy toward Iran, with personnel changes at the negotiating table topping the list. He stressed that any replacement team should be led by someone with a tough disposition and proven ability to handle high-stakes diplomacy in conflict zones.

Kellogg made clear his view that the current administration lacks such capability, suggesting that the war dynamics in Iran have shifted sufficiently to require a corresponding shift in American diplomatic personnel.

During the same segment, Kellogg pointed to retired General Jack Keane, who serves as Fox News Senior Strategic Analyst, as an example of the type of individual who possesses the necessary qualifications and temperament for conducting negotiations with Iran under present circumstances.

The remarks underscore growing conservative criticism of the Biden administration’s approach to Iran policy and regional diplomacy more broadly, particularly as Tehran continues to exert influence across the Middle East through proxy forces and nuclear development activities.
