Kamala Harris Gives Two-Word Reaction to Newsom DOJ Probe

Kamala Harris called the Trump administration the most corrupt in American history after California Governor Gavin Newsom claimed the Justice Department is investigating him politically.

According to New York Post, Harris broke her silence on the controversy Tuesday while speaking to a CNN reporter at an event, characterizing the Trump administration as the most callous, corrupt, and incompetent presidential administration in American history.

The former vice president, speaking at the Austrian World Summit, stated she had predicted nearly everything that has occurred under the Republican president’s leadership. Harris pointed to Trump’s earlier statements about targeting political adversaries as evidence that the latest developments fit a broader pattern.

Newsom, a Democrat eyeing a potential 2028 presidential run, has characterized the federal probes as naked political retribution. The California governor insisted the investigations extend beyond his social media criticism of the president, arguing Trump views him as a threat due to his consideration of a White House bid and his persistent public criticism of presidential dishonesty.

Harris appears to have aligned herself with Newsom’s narrative despite being a potential rival for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. US Senator Adam Schiff of California similarly rallied to the governor’s defense, condemning what he termed presidential abuse of the Justice Department and vowing that neither Newsom nor Senate Democrats would be intimidated by vindictive and baseless investigations.

Questions have emerged, however, about whether some ongoing investigations may have originated during the Biden administration’s oversight of the DOJ. One probe resulted in Newsom’s former chief of staff pleading guilty to federal fraud and tax charges earlier this year, as New York Post reports.

The Justice Department has declined to comment on the matter.

Sources familiar with the situation told the outlet that the Newsom administration faces multiple investigations involving allegations of public corruption and tax violations dating back at least one year. The probes reportedly encompass both the governor and his wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom, along with former and current staff members.

Siebel Newsom’s nonprofit activities appear central to at least one investigation. Earlier reporting revealed the governor assisted in directing over 4.4 million dollars from special interests and wealthy donors to California Partners Project, a nonprofit connected to his wife.

A separate source suggested Newsom’s preemptive public announcement before any official disclosure of the investigations may reflect concerns about which individuals investigators have already contacted. The source characterized the governor’s strategy as an attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the entire investigative process.
