Kamala Harris Declares ‘Ongoing Fight’ for LGBTQ Pride Month
Former Vice President Kamala Harris marked LGBTQ Pride Month with a social media message while the Trump administration declined to issue official recognition for the second consecutive year.
Harris posted to social media platforms on Monday, June 1st, sharing images of herself wearing rainbow-themed LGBTQ merchandise alongside a caption declaring her continued support for the movement, according to Breitbart News.
Pride is joy. Pride is courage. Pride is a celebration, the failed 2024 presidential candidate wrote, before adding that Pride also represents the continuing effort to allow all individuals to live according to their self-defined identities.
The former vice president extended her message beyond the designated month, stating that Americans should celebrate the LGBTQ community and those advocating for equality not just in June but throughout the entire year.
Her public statement stands in sharp contrast to the current administration’s approach. Under former President Joe Biden, federal agencies including the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services routinely issued Pride Month proclamations and social media messages each June. President Donald Trump‘s second term has seen no such official recognition from the White House or most federal departments.
The shift extends beyond government institutions. Major retail chains have substantially scaled back their LGBTQ-themed marketing efforts since the Biden years. Target, one of the most prominent corporations to feature Pride merchandise in previous seasons, no longer appears to stock Pride-related items designed for children, as Breitbart News reports.
Harris closed her message with a simple “Happy Pride!” to her followers across both X and Instagram.
