JD Vance Says Trump Will Support His 2028 Decision

In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Vance acknowledged that while he personally avoids initiating discussions about 2028, the president frequently raises the topic both in public and private settings, according to New York Post.

The president’s a political animal. He loves this stuff, Vance explained during the interview, characterizing Trump’s approach as naturally inquisitive rather than directive.

The vice president has consistently deflected questions about a potential 2028 presidential bid, maintaining that he will not make any decision until after the midterm elections. However, Trump himself has publicly floated the possibility, at one point playfully asking attendees at an event last month whether they preferred Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio for the GOP nomination.

Trump’s Support Uncertain

While Rubio has publicly stated he would not seek the Republican presidential nomination if Vance enters the race, Trump has not clearly indicated which potential candidate he would support. Vance expressed confidence that the president would back whatever decision he ultimately makes, though he noted they have not discussed specifics about his future plans.

The vice president reiterated his standard position on 2028 speculation, stating he and his wife Usha will evaluate their family’s future after the midterm elections conclude.

Second Memoir Release

Vance conducted the interview while promoting his forthcoming second memoir titled “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith,” scheduled for release this Tuesday. During the discussion, second lady Usha Vance shared how the murder of Charlie Kirk influenced their decision to have a fourth child, crediting the emotional impact of that tragedy with crystallizing their family planning discussions.
