IDF Strikes Over 100 Hezbollah Sites in Southern Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces struck over 100 Hezbollah positions in Lebanon's Beqaa Valley and southern regions targeting weapons facilities in response to ongoing ceasefire violations.
According to New York Post, the IDF military operation on Monday night focused heavily on the Beqaa Valley region, where Israeli forces struck multiple Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure sites including weapons storage facilities. One particularly intense operation in the Beqaa Valley town of Machghara saw several strikes executed within seconds of each other, reportedly eliminating multiple terrorists.
Throughout southern Lebanon, Israeli forces hit more than 90 separate targets including arms caches, command centers, observation posts and other installations that Hezbollah has used to launch attacks against Israeli Defense Forces personnel and Israeli civilians, New York Post reports.
Washington Backs Israeli Operations
A senior American official on Monday placed responsibility for the escalation squarely on Hezbollah’s shoulders. This came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he had authorized the military to deliver what he called a crushing blow to the Iranian-backed terror organization.
The U.S. official stated that Hezbollah has ignored repeated requests to stop firing at Israel, emphasizing that the Jewish state will never be expected to passively absorb attacks on its forces and civilians.
Ceasefire Violations Mount
The Iranian-backed terror group initiated its rocket and drone campaign against Israel on March 2, following the targeted elimination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during the opening phase of Operation Roaring Lion on February 28.
In response to repeated ceasefire violations, Israel launched a comprehensive aerial campaign against Hezbollah targets and expanded military operations throughout southern Lebanon designed to prevent cross-border attacks on northern Israeli communities.
Prime Minister Netanyahu on April 26 accused Hezbollah of essentially disintegrating the April 16 ceasefire agreement that had been brokered by the United States and extended for an additional 45 days earlier this month. The premier made clear that Israel’s obligations center on protecting Israeli security, military personnel, and civilian communities, stating his government is acting vigorously according to the rules agreed upon with both the United States and Lebanon.
