A police officer from the anti-crime brigade in Pantin was forced to discharge his service weapon twice on Saturday, May 30, after being confronted by a knife-wielding assailant in Bobigny, Seine-Saint-Denis.

The suspect, a man in his forties armed with two knives, was struck in the hip and chest during the incident, according to Valeurs Actuelles. Despite emergency medical services arriving promptly at the scene, the individual died several minutes later. His life had briefly hung in the balance before succumbing to his injuries.

The violent encounter unfolded following a neighbor dispute on Rue Hector Berlioz in Bobigny, a commune located in the Seine-Saint-Denis department northeast of Paris. Law enforcement had been called to the residential building after the aggressor allegedly stabbed one of his neighbors in the trapezius muscle with a knife.

Around 2:00 PM local time, an anti-crime brigade unit responded to the address. Upon arriving at the sixth floor of the residential building via elevator, officers immediately found themselves in a threatening situation. The circumstances were chaotic from the moment the elevator doors opened.

One officer attempted to push back the attacker with a kick, but the determined assailant continued his assault, wielding a knife in each hand. Faced with an immediate and deadly threat, the police officer discharged his weapon twice to neutralize the danger.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Seine-Saint-Denis, a department that has long grappled with elevated crime rates and violence. French law enforcement officers operating in such high-risk areas frequently face split-second decisions when confronted with armed and violent individuals.

The case underscores the dangers police officers encounter during routine calls that can rapidly escalate into life-threatening confrontations. What began as a neighbor dispute resulted in one civilian stabbing and ultimately a fatal police shooting when an officer was forced to defend himself and his colleagues from an armed aggressor.
