According to New York Post, the IDF identified one of the fallen soldiers as Lt. Col. Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon, 32, from Kibbutz Beit HaShita, who commanded the 52nd “The Breachers” Battalion in the 401st “Iron Tracks” Brigade.
The identities of the three other soldiers killed in the strike remain withheld pending family notification, though their relatives have been informed of the deaths.
Initial reports indicate an explosive drone struck the battalion commander’s tank, resulting in the four fatalities. The incident represents one of the most serious Hezbollah ceasefire violations in recent months, according to military sources.
IDF Launches Retaliatory Strikes
Israeli officials stated the drone attack left the military with no alternative but to respond with force against Hezbollah infrastructure throughout southern Lebanon. The IDF subsequently conducted extensive strikes targeting Hezbollah positions and facilities across the region.

Iran Cancels Switzerland Talks
The deadly attack appears to have triggered broader diplomatic fallout beyond the immediate military response. Iran abruptly canceled a planned delegation visit to Switzerland for technical discussions related to the recently signed US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding.
Iranian officials reportedly cited Israeli military operations in Lebanon as violations of the MoU terms, as New York Post reports. The cancellation followed the White House announcement that Vice President JD Vance had postponed his own trip to Switzerland, where implementation talks on the agreement were scheduled to begin.
Ben Simhon becomes the latest senior officer to be killed during Israel’s continuing military operations against Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon. The IDF stated additional details regarding the attack circumstances and the identities of the remaining three soldiers would be released as information becomes available.
