Fetterman: We’re Better Off Now Than Under Iran Nuclear Deal
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman said America is better positioned against Iran now than under the Obama nuclear deal, citing military strikes that destroyed Tehran's infrastructure.
Speaking on NewsNation’s “Cuomo” programme on Wednesday, Senator Fetterman defended the recent aggressive posture towards Iran whilst stopping short of directly attacking the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action negotiated under President Obama, according to Breitbart News.
The Pennsylvania senator argued that military intervention against Iran in June of last year, referred to as Midnight Hammer, was essential to preventing the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons capability.
Fetterman told the programme that had strikes not occurred last June, Iran would have been firmly on track to develop nuclear weapons. He acknowledged that American administrations have been grappling with the Iranian nuclear threat for 47 years without success, but maintained that the Obama-era deal was clearly not going to achieve its objectives.
When pressed directly by host Chris Cuomo on whether the current situation represents an improvement over the JCPOA framework, Fetterman was unequivocal in his response.
The senator stated America is 100 per cent better off now, pointing to the degradation of Iran’s military forces, the elimination of key leadership figures, and the destruction of multiple nuclear facilities as evidence of superior strategic positioning.
The comments represent a notable departure from traditional Democratic Party messaging on Iran, which has typically favoured diplomatic engagement and multilateral agreements over direct military action. Fetterman’s remarks suggest a growing bipartisan consensus that the previous approach failed to adequately address the Iranian nuclear threat.
