Dem Rep Demands Apology from Jill Biden Over Biden Presidency
Representative Adam Smith demanded Jill Biden apologize to Democrats for enabling a coverup of President Biden's declining health that he says damaged the party's credibility.
Representative Adam Smith of Washington made the remarks during an appearance on CNN’s “The Arena” on Thursday, according to Breitbart News, where he expressed frustration with the former first lady’s contradictory statements about her husband’s condition during the campaign.
When co-host Kasie Hunt asked whether it was productive for Jill Biden to continue making public statements about the matter, Smith did not mince words in his response.
The congressman called her recent comments both unproductive and dishonest, pointing to what he characterized as glaring contradictions in her account. He noted that she claimed to have thought the president was having a stroke during the debate, yet in the same breath denied seeing any evidence of cognitive decline.
Smith went further, placing blame squarely on the Biden family and their inner circle for what he described as a catastrophic miscalculation that damaged the Democratic Party. He stated that it had been clear for roughly two years that Joe Biden would not be a credible presidential candidate due to his age and declining health, calling this assessment beyond debate.
The Washington Democrat accused Jill Biden, the family, and key advisors of digging in and pushing the president forward despite these evident concerns. He emphasized that this decision exacted a terrible price on the party.
Smith also addressed the impossible position this created for Democratic officials and candidates. He explained that once it became clear Biden would run and could not be stopped, Democrats across the country were forced to defend the indefensible, which undermined both their individual credibility and the party’s broader credibility heading into 2024.
The congressman concluded his remarks by stating plainly that the Biden family should have recognized the situation earlier. They just should have seen it, he said, adding that the only statement he wanted to hear from Jill Biden was an apology acknowledging that they should have spoken up sooner.
The extraordinary public criticism from a sitting Democratic member of Congress underscores the lingering frustration within party ranks over the handling of Biden’s candidacy and the subsequent electoral consequences.
