Ex-White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Invited To ‘The View’

ABC's "The View" invited former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt to appear as a guest despite the network's ongoing legal battle with the Trump administration over broadcast licenses.

The invitation comes amid widespread speculation about Leavitt’s next career move following her announcement that she would step down from the high-profile White House position at the end of May. At just 29 years old, Leavitt made history as the youngest White House press secretary ever appointed. Her final day in the role was Thursday.

Sources close to the network confirmed the guest invitation, though it remains unclear whether Leavitt has responded or agreed to appear. The approach follows earlier reports suggesting the telegenic former spokeswoman might be considering a transition to television.

Family First Decision

Leavitt, a New Hampshire native, moved quickly last week to dispel rumors of a permanent television role. She announced her departure was motivated by a desire to spend more time with her two young children — a 2-year-old and a 4-month-old infant born in May. Rather than pursuing a media career, she confirmed she will return to work as a spokesperson for MAGA Inc., President Trump’s super PAC.

Earlier reports from the Daily Mail had suggested Leavitt was in secret negotiations to join “The View” as a permanent co-host, but subsequent reporting clarified that ABC had merely extended a guest appearance invitation, not a full-time position.

Legal Battle Backdrop

The timing of the invitation is notable given ABC’s ongoing confrontation with federal regulators. The Disney-owned network is currently embroiled in litigation with the Federal Communications Commission, with eight broadcast licenses — including stations in major markets such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago — hanging in the balance.

ABC filed suit against the FCC earlier this month, alleging a retaliatory campaign by the Trump administration designed to punish the network for editorial content the government finds objectionable. The network accused regulators of attempting to silence its programming.

FCC Chair Brendan Carr initiated an investigation in March 2025 examining whether Disney continues to implement diversity, equity, and inclusion policies that the Trump administration has targeted through executive action. The situation intensified in April when Carr launched the license renewal process a full year ahead of the normal schedule, citing the network’s alleged failure to cooperate with the DEI inquiry.

Equal Time Controversy

Federal regulators have also raised concerns about potential violations of the equal-time rule, which requires broadcasters to provide equivalent airtime to candidates competing for the same office. In its legal filings, ABC argued that Carr’s actual objective is coercing and punishing a network that refuses to submit to administration pressure. The network stated it has become more cautious about booking political candidates on “The View” as a consequence of the regulatory scrutiny.

Because Leavitt is not currently seeking any political office, equal-time regulations would not apply to her potential appearance on the program.

All six current co-hosts of “The View” — known for their consistently anti-Trump commentary — are scheduled to return when Season 30 premieres next Tuesday. A Leavitt appearance would not mark the first time the show has hosted Trump administration officials. Vice President JD Vance recently appeared on the program and clashed with the panel, while co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin previously served in Trump’s first administration.

Successor Search Continues

The White House search for Leavitt’s replacement remains ongoing and has been described as an open process by senior administration officials. Early candidates reportedly under consideration include Alina Habba, former acting US attorney for New Jersey who also served as one of Trump’s defense attorneys, and Matthew Boyle, Washington Bureau Chief at Breitbart.
