How Socialists and Islamists Infiltrate US Democrats

The Democratic Party’s leftward drift has accelerated dramatically, with hardcore socialists and Islamist-aligned candidates now securing key positions in American politics through structures built over two decades by wealthy financiers and activist networks. The latest victory signals a concerning transformation of what was once the party of Roosevelt and Kennedy into a vehicle for radical ideology.
In a razor-thin primary victory, Abdul El-Sayed recently secured the Democratic Party nomination for one of Michigan’s two Senate seats, according to Claudio Casula writing in Nius. El-Sayed, whose parents emigrated from Egypt, has roots in the Democratic Socialists of America, an organization that explicitly rejects capitalist economic systems and advocates for collective control of resources and production, economic planning, and what it terms “just distribution.”
El-Sayed represents the second major figure in what Casula describes as the “Red-Green Alliance” of leftists and radical Muslims within the Democratic Party. The first was Zohran Mamdani, who has called for globalizing the intifada and destroying capitalism, yet assumed office as mayor of New York City at the beginning of this year.
Like Mamdani, El-Sayed has built a public record of radical statements. Years ago, he labeled Israel as “bloodthirsty” and an “illegal apartheid regime,” demanding a complete weapons embargo that would leave the Jewish state defenseless against overwhelming Arab military superiority. He has also offered “explanations” for terrorism by the Lebanese Hezbollah and advocates abolishing ICE, the U.S. immigration enforcement agency responsible for deporting illegal migrants.
El-Sayed maintains a close friendship with far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, who once stated that America “deserved” the September 11 terrorist attacks and dismissed victim accounts of sexual violence on October 7 as “rape fantasies.” The profanity-laden Piker has become a sought-after campaign surrogate for Democratic socialists this election season, traveling nationwide on behalf of various candidates. When 47 percent of Michigan Democrats voted against El-Sayed, Piker angrily denounced them as “incredibly Islamophobic assholes.”
Long-Standing Connections to Islamist Networks
El-Sayed’s father-in-law, who contributed to financing his campaign, maintains documented connections to the Muslim Brotherhood. He previously chaired the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations and served as a founding member of the Islamic Society of North America. Both organizations were named as unindicted co-conspirators in the terrorism financing prosecution of the Holy Land Foundation.
The rise of Islamist-socialist figures like Ilhan Omar, who emigrated from Somalia, and Rashida Tlaib, daughter of Palestinian migrants—both now serving in the House of Representatives—has fundamentally altered the Democratic Party’s character. Many Americans are now asking a pointed question: if El-Sayed can win in the Midwest in November, what prevents a committed Marxist from eventually reaching the White House?
Two Decades of Strategic Infrastructure Building
Understanding the political ascent of figures like Mamdani and El-Sayed requires examining developments dating back to at least 2005, when Muslim-majority states launched a campaign at an “extraordinary Islamic summit” to weaponize the term “Islamophobia” and silence critics of extremist Islam, which had already established footholds in the United States.
Muslims in America subsequently leveraged American philanthropic networks as a Trojan horse to reframe Islam as a racial category, portray Muslims as “the oppressed,” and embed illiberal ideologies into America’s liberal institutions—including the Democratic Party itself.
Following the September 11 attacks, which starkly illustrated the dangers of Islamism to America, coordination of narratives became essential. George Soros’s Open Society Foundation soon financed a new “Security and Rights Collaborative” at the Proteus Fund, ostensibly to “restore civil liberties and human rights lost in the name of the ‘war on terror.'”
This infrastructure, built methodically over years with substantial funding from progressive foundations and NGOs, now delivers candidates directly into positions of political power. The Democratic Party that once embodied American strength and Western ideals under presidents like Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, and John F. Kennedy has given way to one increasingly dominated by socialist and Islamist elements.
The toxic alliance between hardcore leftists and radical Muslims represents a development that serves neither the Democratic Party’s long-term interests nor those of the United States as a whole. With El-Sayed’s narrow victory demonstrating the electoral viability of openly anti-capitalist, anti-Israel candidates even in heartland states like Michigan, the trajectory of American politics has entered genuinely alarming territory.
