Zac Brown Stands Firm on White House Anthem, Calls It Patriotism
Country music star Zac Brown defended his decision to perform the National Anthem at a UFC event on the White House lawn, calling it an act of patriotism for America's 250th anniversary.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show this Wednesday, Brown made clear that his decision centers on honoring America’s 250th anniversary and the men and women who serve in uniform, according to Breitbart News.
The singer emphasized his focus on national unity and service members, stating his presence is about honoring those who have sacrificed for American freedoms. Brown rejected the notion that his performance carries political weight, expressing frustration with divisive narratives and reaffirming his love for the country and its founding principles.
Brown also highlighted the historic nature of the June 14 event, which marks the first sporting competition ever held on the White House grounds. He described the opportunity as an honor and expressed enthusiasm about performing alongside the Marine Band.
Approximately 8,000 active duty service members are expected to attend the event, Breitbart News reports. Brown will perform both at the weigh-in concert on Saturday and during the National Anthem ceremony with the Marine Band.
The country artist thanked UFC president Dana White for extending the invitation, calling the collaboration with the Marine Band an exciting prospect.
Brown’s decision to participate comes amid controversy surrounding the Freedom 250 concert, with several high-profile artists withdrawing from the event. Both Martina McBride and Bret Michaels pulled out, citing concerns that the celebration had become too partisan in nature.
Michaels explained his withdrawal by noting that what was initially presented as a national celebration had evolved into something more divisive than he had agreed to support, as reported by Variety. The rocker also referenced safety concerns for his fans, band members, crew, and family, including what he described as unfounded threats.
Despite the high-profile withdrawals, Brown remains committed to his role in the historic White House lawn event, maintaining that patriotism transcends political divisions.
