YMCA Bans Locker Room Nudity After Trans Exposure Scandal
A San Francisco YMCA implemented new locker room nudity policies after female members complained about a transgender-identified male exposing himself in women's facilities.
The Stonestown Family YMCA introduced strict nudity guidelines after patrons raised concerns about an individual known as “Sammy,” a biological male who identifies as transgender and has not undergone surgical procedures, according to Breitbart News.
The facility posted new regulations titled “NEW YMCA LOCKER ROOMS GUIDELINES 2026” in the changing area, establishing clear boundaries for appropriate behavior. The rules specify that nudity should be discreet, limited, and brief throughout the locker room space.
New Policy Restricts Public Nudity
Under the updated guidelines, nudity is permitted only while actively showering. Members must put clothing on or ensure they are covered when using any space outside of the shower area.
The policy further instructs patrons to respect privacy and personal space, maintain appropriate distance from others, remain mindful of personal boundaries during times of undress, and demonstrate courtesy at all times.
Pattern of Complaints Against Transgender Member
Sammy, who had been frequenting the Stonestown location for approximately two years, reportedly engaged in behavior that made female patrons uncomfortable. Witnesses described the individual standing naked in front of mirrors in the women’s locker room and bending over while blow-drying hair.
When confronted by other gym members, the transgender-identified male would allegedly respond defensively, calling complainants intolerant and even drunk, as Breitbart News reports.
Member Protests and Petitions
The controversy prompted organized action from YMCA members. Protesters gathered outside the Stonestown location and at least one other facility. Members also circulated petitions requesting that Sammy be required to use a designated gender-neutral changing space rather than the women’s locker room.
Since the implementation of the new policies, Sammy has not been observed at the facility. The Stonestown YMCA declined to provide comment on the matter, and attempts to reach Sammy were unsuccessful.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions in progressive cities where policies intended to accommodate transgender individuals come into conflict with the privacy concerns and safety expectations of biological women in single-sex spaces.
