World Leaders Hail Trump’s ‘Hugely Important’ Iran Peace Deal
International leaders backed President Trump's peace deal with Iran set to be signed in Switzerland next week, which will reopen the Strait of Hormuz to global oil shipments.
The conclusion of military hostilities between the United States and Iran marks a significant development for global energy security, as it paves the way for the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Approximately one-fifth of the world’s annual oil supplies pass through this critical waterway, and its reopening was celebrated by leaders across Europe and the Middle East on Sunday evening.
London and Paris led the chorus of congratulations, with both capitals having previously pledged to spearhead an international coalition ensuring toll-free passage through the strategic strait once hostilities ceased.
British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer issued a statement warmly welcoming the agreement reached between Washington and Tehran. He described the accord as a critically important advance toward ending the conflict, securing regional stability, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Starmer praised President Trump and the mediators from Pakistan, Qatar, and other nations who facilitated the breakthrough, noting that his government has long advocated for de-escalation in the region.
The British Prime Minister emphasized that his administration is prepared to support efforts guaranteeing the strait reopens and remains permanently accessible. He highlighted the necessity of easing the severe economic hardship experienced for several months by families in the United Kingdom and globally.
Starmer indicated Britain’s willingness to participate in a defensive, independent multilateral mission planned jointly with France, particularly offering assistance with mine clearance operations in an agreed manner. He stressed that for any lasting peace, commitments regarding Iran’s nuclear program must be robust, verifiable, and fully implemented, reaffirming that Britain’s firm position remains that Iran must never possess nuclear weapons.
French President Emmanuel Macron echoed similar views, welcoming the agreement between the United States and Iran.
Macron confirmed that French resources stand ready for deployment in support of the international mission alongside the United Kingdom to secure free passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
The French leader declared that the resumption of maritime traffic without restrictions or tolls represents an indispensable condition for regional stability and the global economy.
He further stated that the agreement opens pathways for comprehensive negotiations serving peace and security for all parties in the Middle East. These discussions must address concerns related to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programs, as well as its policy of regional destabilization, Macron said, adding that France is prepared to play its full role alongside partners in building solid and lasting peace.
The French President also emphasized the importance of achieving a ceasefire involving Israel in Lebanon to restore Beirut’s sovereignty over its entire territory, much of which remains under the control of the Islamist terrorist organization Hezbollah.
From the Middle East, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani expressed his country’s welcome of the agreement between Washington and Tehran.
Sheikh Mohammed extended thanks to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and all regional and international parties who contributed to creating conditions for reaching this understanding, as Breitbart News reports.
The Qatari Prime Minister expressed hope that all parties will engage in upcoming negotiations with a positive and constructive spirit, contributing to consolidating and building upon this progress. He affirmed that Qatar will remain a steadfast supporter of efforts promoting security and stability at regional and international levels through dialogue and peaceful means.
Support for the agreement extended to Latin America, where leftist Colombian President Gustavo Petro—who has had a contentious relationship with President Trump—thanked the American leader for his effort concerning the peace of humanity.
Petro noted that Colombia currently holds the presidency of the United Nations Security Council and will contribute everything within its reach to support the peace effort between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
