US Central Command announced Tuesday night that American forces downed multiple Iranian missiles and drones in conjunction with the targeted strikes on the island. The operation represents the latest escalation in growing tensions between Washington and Tehran in the critical Gulf region.

Tehran launched no fewer than five missiles aimed at neighboring Gulf states, though all failed to reach their intended targets, CENTCOM reported. Two missiles fell short of their destinations or broke apart during flight, while the remaining three were successfully intercepted by US and Bahraini air defense systems.

Despite these failures, Iranian state media claimed that three missiles successfully hit what they described as “enemy bases” inside Kuwait.

US forces also shot down three one-way attack drones that Iranian military units had launched toward civilian maritime vessels operating in regional waters. The American counterstrike specifically targeted a military ground control station on Qeshm Island, which occupies a strategic position along the vital Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM issued a statement condemning what it characterized as “unwarranted Iranian aggression during the ongoing ceasefire.”

IRGC Threatens Further Action

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps offered a starkly different narrative, portraying its strikes on Kuwait as retaliation for what it called US forces’ “brazen and blatant aggression” in the Qeshm Island strikes, as New York Post reports.

Tehran’s military forces issued a warning that Tuesday’s missile launches constituted only an “initial response,” signaling potential for further escalation.

The latest hostilities erupted just one day after the Islamic Republic destroyed an American drone and ordered a separate drone attack on a US military installation in Kuwait.

Monday’s confrontations also focused on Qeshm Island, home to the Iranian regime’s underground and heavily fortified “missile city” complex. The facility represents a cornerstone of Tehran’s regional military infrastructure.

These exchanges mark a sharp intensification of hostilities following last week’s events, when IRGC mine-laying operations prompted American strikes on Bandar Abbas, Iran’s primary naval base and strategic port facility on the Persian Gulf.
