According to New York Post, US Central Command forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones operating near the Strait of Hormuz. American forces also struck an Iranian ground control station located in Bandar Abbas that was preparing to launch a fifth drone against US interests in the region.

Iranian forces responded by claiming to have targeted a US airbase, according to state-run media outlets in Tehran. While the report did not specify which American installation came under fire, Kuwait’s military confirmed its air defenses were actively confronting hostile missile and drone attacks late Wednesday evening. No damage or casualties were reported from the Iranian counterattack.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps issued a warning that any further American military action would be met with what they described as a more decisive response.

The Iranian drones destroyed by US forces were reportedly targeting an American commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. Tasnim News Agency, which maintains close ties to the IRGC, claimed the Iranian Navy had fired warning shots at what it called an American oil tanker. Iranian military sources told additional state-run media that warning shots were directed at four vessels attempting to transit the strait without proper authorization.

Despite the military engagement, US officials maintain that the fragile ceasefire established on April 8 remains in effect. An American official stated that the actions taken were measured, purely defensive in nature, and intended to preserve the ceasefire arrangement.

Escalating Pattern of Attacks

The Wednesday strikes represent at least the 24th attack in and around the Strait of Hormuz since hostilities with Iran began. Tehran has effectively blockaded the critical oil chokepoint through repeated attacks and threats directed at cargo ships and tankers attempting passage through the waterway.

Wednesday’s operation follows so-called self-defense strikes launched by the US military on Monday against Iranian boats that were laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Those strikes also destroyed a surface-to-air missile site in Bandar Abbas that was reportedly targeting American warplanes, according to CENTCOM.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue Amid Military Tensions

The latest military clashes occur as US and Iranian negotiators work toward finalizing a memorandum of understanding designed to reopen the strategic waterway to international shipping without tolls. The proposed agreement would also provide additional time for negotiations regarding Iran’s stockpiles of highly enriched uranium.

President Donald Trump warned earlier Wednesday that if Tehran fails to reach an agreement, American forces would have to finish the job militarily. The president criticized the Iranian regime for believing they could outlast his administration, arguing they are now negotiating from a position of extreme weakness following the destruction of their air force and navy, as well as the deaths of key leadership figures since the initial US and Israeli strikes on February 28.

I think it looks like they want to just make a deal, Trump stated during a cabinet meeting at the White House, adding that he does not believe Iran has any alternative.
