U.S. Strikes Iran Military Sites as Kuwait Hit by Drone Fire
The United States struck Iranian radar and drone facilities after Iran downed a U.S. MQ-1 drone over international waters, with Iran retaliating and Kuwait intercepting incoming fire.
U.S. Central Command confirmed the operations took place on Saturday and Sunday near the city of Geruk and on Qeshm Island. The strikes targeted Iranian air defense systems, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that military officials described as clear threats to maritime traffic in regional waters.
American fighter aircraft executed what Central Command characterized as measured and deliberate strikes in direct response to aggressive Iranian actions. The military emphasized the MQ-1 drone had been conducting lawful operations over international waters when Iranian forces shot it down.
Kuwait reported its air defenses engaged incoming drone and missile fire early Monday morning, opening fire to intercept the threats. The oil-rich nation hosts U.S. Army Central, which serves as the forward command for Army operations in the Middle East.
Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for what it called a retaliatory strike against American forces, though it did not specify the location. The Guard’s statement, carried by the state-run IRNA news agency, alleged U.S. forces had targeted a telecommunications tower.
Iranian state television broadcast footage of a ballistic missile launch featuring imagery of a bruised Donald Trump overlaid on a closed Strait of Hormuz. The missile bore a sticker with the caption declaring defiance until the last American soldier departs the region.
While the U.S. Air Force has phased out the MQ-1 Predator, the U.S. Army continues to operate the reconnaissance platform. The weekend military exchanges represent the latest escalation after peace negotiations aimed at ending months of hostilities stalled.
Trump returned an amended peace proposal to Tehran demanding more explicit commitments regarding Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, its nuclear program, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Multiple reports indicate the president declined to immediately approve a proposed framework agreement during a Situation Room meeting with senior advisers over the weekend.
The strikes underscore continuing tensions in the region as diplomatic efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement remain at an impasse. Both nations have exchanged military actions while negotiations over nuclear limitations and regional security arrangements continue without breakthrough.
