U.S. Slaps New Sanctions on Iran’s Military Oil Sales
The U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on eight vessels and over 15 companies across multiple countries involved in Iranian oil sales to cut funding to Iran's military.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent framed the punitive measures as part of Operation Economic Fury, described as the financial component of the broader Operation Epic Fury military campaign against Iran.
The Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on eight vessels involved in transporting Iranian oil and petroleum products to international markets, alongside more than 15 corporate entities engaged in the Iranian oil trade. The targeted companies span multiple jurisdictions including Hong Kong, Singapore, Qatar, the Marshall Islands, mainland China, India, and the United Arab Emirates.
Among the sanctioned Iranian entities is Sepehr Energy Jahan Nama Pars Company, which the Treasury statement identified as the oil sales division of Iran’s Armed Forces General Staff and a critical component in the regime’s crude oil and petroleum export infrastructure.
The Treasury Department noted that Sepehr Energy Jahan’s oil export operations rely heavily on access to shadow fleet vessels prepared to move the military’s oil supplies. Several of the other entities hit with sanctions function as fronts for Sepehr Energy Jahan or supply shipping resources that enable the Iranian military oil trade.
According to the Treasury statement, sanctioned Iranian entities also exploit the armed forces’ oil sales network to obtain petroleum products from abroad. Hong Kong-based Worth Seen Energy Limited was specifically cited for procuring refined petroleum products on behalf of Sepehr Energy Jahan for the National Iranian Oil Company.
The latest sanctions round arrived one day after the Treasury Department designated the Persian Gulf Strait Authority—a newly established Iranian entity created by the terrorist Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to extort tolls and ransom payments from ships traversing the Strait of Hormuz—as a target under Operation Economic Fury.
Bessent described the Iranian military’s toll collection scheme as evidence that Economic Fury has left the regime in desperate need of cash. As Breitbart News reports, the sanctions against the Persian Gulf Strait Authority included an explicit warning that any individual or entity complying with Iranian toll or ransom demands risks facing secondary U.S. sanctions.
