The two crew members were rescued at 19:33 Eastern Time on Monday evening, approximately two hours after their aircraft went down near the coast of Oman while conducting patrol operations in regional waters. The incident occurred as tensions continue in the Persian Gulf region. President Trump also addressed ongoing negotiations with Iran and Israel during his remarks, revealing that discussions have progressed despite recent ceasefire violations that led to strikes between the two nations.
Trump indicated that a new agreement could be finalized within days. He confirmed that Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian forces had exchanged fire but have now agreed through American mediation to cease hostilities. The AH-64 Apache is a Cold War-era attack helicopter originally designed for anti-tank warfare against Soviet armor. The aircraft is conventionally armed with an auto-cannon and Hellfire anti-armor missiles, and has been recently upgraded with the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System. This new generation of low-cost guided missiles is particularly effective against fast-moving, unarmored threats including drones and Iran’s fleet of weaponized speedboats that operate in the narrow Strait of Hormuz.
