U.N. Nuclear Body Demands Iran Stop Enriching Uranium
The International Atomic Energy Agency voted to demand Iran immediately halt uranium enrichment and allow full inspections after concerns about its weapons capabilities and blocked oversight.
According to Breitbart News, the resolution passed with overwhelming support from 21 nations including the United States, while only Russia, China, and Niger voted against the measure. The Iranian Islamist regime has systematically blocked proper oversight of its nuclear program for years, restricting inspections to brief visits at its Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant while barring access to enrichment sites entirely.
The resolution came as IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi presented stark warnings to the Board of Governors about the regime’s intransigence. Grossi revealed that the agency has been unable to verify Iran’s uranium stockpile for nearly a year, particularly following American airstrikes on three critical enrichment facilities in June 2025 ordered by President Donald Trump.
Tehran Obstructs Nuclear Oversight
The resolution text stated that Iran’s repeated failures to cooperate with inspectors regarding undeclared nuclear material at multiple locations constitute clear non-compliance with its legal obligations under the Safeguards Agreement. The document demanded that Iran suspend all enrichment-related activities, reprocessing operations, research and development, and work on heavy water projects.
As Breitbart News reports, the Board of Governors declared inspections essential and urgent to ensure Iran meets its international legal requirements under the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which Tehran has signed.
Massive Enriched Uranium Stockpile Unaccounted For
Grossi disclosed in his June 8 opening statement that the IAEA cannot provide accurate information about Iran’s uranium stockpile status following the American strikes on facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Prior to those strikes, intelligence indicated Iran possessed 440.9 kilograms of 60-percent enriched uranium and was continuing enrichment at rates incompatible with any civilian purpose.
The IAEA chief warned that a stockpile of that magnitude could be sufficient to construct up to ten nuclear warheads. Grossi emphasized that the agency has now lost continuity of knowledge regarding previously declared nuclear material, creating significant proliferation concerns about highly enriched uranium that has gone unverified since June 2025.
Support for Trump Negotiations With Conditions
The resolution passed amid ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran toward a peace agreement. President Trump has stated clearly that any deal must require Iran to commit to ending its nuclear weapons activities entirely.
Grossi offered his full support to the American-Iranian negotiations, stating he stands ready to endorse any agreement that is verifiable. The IAEA director has been a vocal critic of the previous Obama-era Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and has discouraged parties from adopting similar frameworks that proved ineffective at constraining Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
The Board of Governors has declared Iran in breach of international law only once in the past two decades, which occurred in June 2025 immediately before President Trump authorized the strikes on Iranian enrichment sites. The Wednesday resolution marks a significant escalation in international pressure on the regime to comply with its legal obligations and allow full transparency of its nuclear program.
