Tuberville: Remove Race from Redistricting Politics
Senator Tommy Tuberville said race should be removed from redistricting per Supreme Court guidance while indicating he may run for Alabama governor in coming years.
The Alabama Republican made his remarks during an appearance on “The Alex Marlow Show” this Thursday, according to Breitbart News.
Tommy Tuberville indicated his intention to seek the governorship in the coming years while addressing the contentious issue of congressional redistricting in his state. The senator emphasized that the Supreme Court has ruled against using race as a factor in drawing district boundaries.
Speaking on the broadcast, Tuberville stated his commitment to ensuring all Alabamians have representation without racial considerations driving the redistricting process. He framed the issue as one of following Supreme Court precedent that removes race from political mapmaking.
The senator’s comments come as Alabama continues to navigate federal court decisions regarding its congressional districts, with conservatives arguing that merit-based and politically neutral redistricting should replace race-conscious approaches.
Tuberville pledged that under his potential leadership as governor, the state would work toward implementing a system that gives everybody a voice without inserting racial categories into the political process.
