The incident occurred during a Meet the Press interview with moderator Kristen Welker, who pressed Trump on his longstanding claims regarding irregularities in the 2020 presidential election. The exchange quickly deteriorated as Welker insisted the president had not provided evidence to support his assertions about election fraud.

Trump did not hold back in his criticism of the network during the Sunday broadcast, as New York Post reports. You’re a one-sided crooked network, the president told Welker before deciding to terminate the interview. He then called it quits and thanked the host before departing.

Welker attempted to persuade Trump to remain for the remainder of the interview, noting that she had traveled to Wisconsin specifically for the sit-down. The president, however, was unmoved by her appeal.

Trump pointed out that he had already spent considerable time with the NBC journalist, including sitting through adverse weather conditions. He told Welker she had been given enough time and suggested the network needed to reform its journalistic practices.

The president emphasized his view that a nation cannot achieve greatness when its press operates dishonestly, a recurring theme in his criticism of mainstream media outlets.

Despite the contentious ending, Welker disclosed after the segment aired that she had spoken with Trump following the initial interview. The president agreed to participate in a subsequent follow-up interview with the NBC host.

The confrontation represents the latest flashpoint in Trump’s ongoing battle with establishment media organizations, which he has consistently accused of bias and unfair coverage throughout his political career.
