Trump Vows to Stop Communist D.C. Mayoral Candidate George
President Trump warned he will not allow Democratic mayoral candidate Janeese Lewis George to implement policies he calls destructive, labeling her a communist in a Truth Social post.
President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning that he will not allow Janeese Lewis George, the Democratic candidate poised to become Washington DC’s next mayor, to implement what he characterized as destructive policies that would undermine efforts to restore safety and prestige to the nation’s capital.
In a statement posted to Truth Social, Trump outlined a series of positions he attributes to George, including plans to empty prisons, designate the city as a sanctuary jurisdiction for criminal illegal aliens, oppose ICE operations, defund police departments, and expand cashless bail programs, according to Breitbart News.
The president emphasized that significant work has been invested in transforming Washington into what he described as a safe and prestigious community once again. Trump labeled George a “Communist” and vowed to meet with her personally to ensure the capital does not fall victim to policies he considers detrimental to public safety and civic order.
Trump declared that those who have labored to restore the city will not permit it to be destroyed by someone he views as having no commitment to making Washington great again.
In response to the president’s remarks, George issued a statement disputing most of the claims while acknowledging that meetings between the mayor’s office and the administration would be necessary. Mark Segraves, a reporter with NBC 4 Washington, shared George’s response on X.
George stated she remains willing to work with the administration to improve conditions for DC residents, but pledged to stand against anyone who endangers the city or its population.
The exchange comes as Trump has received bipartisan recognition for construction and restoration projects throughout the capital, as Breitbart News reports. These initiatives include the restoration of monuments and fountains at locations such as Meridian Hill Park and the fountain at Columbus Circle near Union Station.
Earlier in August 2025, video footage documented the clearing of a homeless encampment near the Kennedy Center, following Trump’s commitment to address crime in the district. The president formally invoked section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, placing the DC Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal oversight and activating the National Guard.
While George has indicated willingness to collaborate with the president, she has also established boundaries for that cooperation, according to Fox5DC. She emphasized that defending the district’s autonomy and pursuing DC statehood cannot be achieved through preemptive compliance, though she reiterated her commitment to working with any party in the best interests of DC residents.
