According to New York Post, McDonald brings extensive federal experience to the role, having previously worked as an assistant US attorney and led enforcement operations at the Commodities Futures Trading Commission.

The nomination follows Trump’s decision to name the current SDNY chief, Jay Clayton, as his pick for Director of National Intelligence. However, that appointment may face complications amid Democratic opposition to the President’s plan to install Bill Pulte in an acting capacity.

In a Truth Social post, the President highlighted McDonald’s Oklahoma roots and professional background, noting his service during Trump’s first administration.

I am confident that Jamie will deliver strong results for our Country, Trump stated, praising McDonald’s relationships with law enforcement, the legal profession, and the judiciary.

McDonald currently serves as a senior partner at Sullivan & Cromwell, one of America’s most prestigious law firms. His credentials also include a clerkship with Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.

The Southern District of New York has long been regarded as one of the most powerful and influential prosecutorial offices in the United States, handling major financial crimes, terrorism cases, and politically sensitive investigations.
