Speaking to Miranda Devine on the “Pod Force One” podcast released Wednesday, Donald Trump characterized Ron DeSantis as a capable leader when asked whether the Florida governor might be considered for attorney general following Pam Bondi‘s dismissal, according to New York Post.

The president acknowledged that various names have been floated for the position but noted that DeSantis has never expressed interest in the role. Despite this, Trump made clear his appreciation for the governor’s work.

The cordial exchange marks a striking evolution from the bitter primary battle of 2024, when Trump famously branded his Republican rival “Ron DeSanctimonious” during heated campaign exchanges. That animosity has given way to cooperation, with DeSantis now working alongside the administration on core priorities including illegal immigration enforcement and congressional redistricting.

Trump pointed to recent gestures of goodwill from the Florida governor, including legislation signed in March that renamed Palm Beach International Airport in the president’s honor. The facility, which Trump regularly uses when traveling to his Mar-a-Lago residence, now bears the designation Donald J. Trump International Airport.

DeSantis has also facilitated plans for Trump’s presidential library in Miami, further cementing the renewed alliance between the two Republican heavyweights.

The president expressed satisfaction with acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, his former personal attorney, who currently leads the Department of Justice. Trump indicated he wanted to assess how Blanche would be received in the role and concluded the performance has been strong.

When pressed on potential cabinet appointments, the president declined to name specific candidates but expressed confidence in the Republican Party’s bench strength, noting there are numerous qualified individuals available for key positions.
