Trump: ‘Dumocrats’ Trying to Steal California Primaries
President Trump has accused Democrats of attempting to steal California's gubernatorial and Los Angeles mayoral primaries through irregularities in mail-in ballot counting, prompting a federal investigation.
The president directed his criticism at what he characterized as irregularities in the vote tallying process, according to Breitbart News. In a Truth Social post, Trump raised concerns about the timing and volume of mail-in ballots being processed.
Donald Trump wrote that Democrats were trying to steal the California governor primary and the Los Angeles mayor primary away from two Republican candidates, pointing specifically to what he described as very late and massive numbers of mail-in ballots arriving in the count.
On Thursday, the president announced that Los Angeles officials had opened an investigation into the matter. In a subsequent Truth Social post, Trump stated there was significant cheating by Democrats in California, with votes tied up and potentially not finalized for weeks. He noted the situation was under investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles.
California’s vote counting process typically extends well beyond election night due to signature verification requirements, vote-by-mail ballot processing procedures, and mandatory audits following poll closure, as Breitbart News reports.
Early ballot returns suggested voters were poised to advance Spencer Pratt and Steve Hilton to runoff elections for mayor and governor respectively. As of Wednesday night with 56 percent of ballots counted, Hilton maintained first place in the gubernatorial race with 27.6 percent of the vote, while Xavier Becerra held second position at 25.6 percent.
In the Los Angeles mayoral contest, Pratt remained in second place with 29.91 percent behind incumbent Mayor Karen Bass at 34.97 percent. Nithya Raman trailed in third with 22.81 percent of counted votes.
Trump endorsed Hilton in April, recently describing him as a hard-driving winner. Pratt has gained additional momentum after comedian and HBO late-night host Bill Maher declared him authentic and offered his endorsement.
Pratt has mounted a aggressive campaign against Bass, sharing multiple videos documenting his interactions with local residents whom he claims the mayor ignores.
Alex Marlow, Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief, addressed the broader political landscape during an episode of The Alex Marlow Show on Monday. He noted that Los Angeles has not elected a Republican mayor in approximately two decades, characterizing the situation as an extension of one-party rule.
Marlow argued that no one would claim single-party dominance benefits a city or state, yet Bass remains favored to win despite the city experiencing significant challenges during her tenure, bolstered by union backing that shields her from accountability.
