Trump Cancels Strikes, Says Iran Deal Approved by All Parties
President Trump cancelled planned military strikes against Iran on Thursday evening after announcing approval of a comprehensive deal involving Iranian leadership and multiple regional nations.
According to Breitbart News, Trump declared on Truth Social that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran had reached the highest levels of Iranian leadership and received approval, prompting him to call off scheduled strikes and bombings slated for Thursday evening.
The president stated that discussions and final points had been approved in both concept and detail by all parties, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and other nations.
Trump emphasized that the naval blockade currently in place will remain fully operational until the transaction is finalized, with the time and location of the signing to be announced shortly.
The announcement represents a dramatic reversal from Trump’s position earlier the same day, when he warned that the United States would strike Iran very hard that evening and floated the possibility of seizing Kharg Island, the critical Persian Gulf terminal that processes the vast majority of Iranian oil exports.
In his earlier Thursday post, Trump had written that the United States would hit Iran very hard, noting that the country’s navy, air force, radar, anti-aircraft systems, and other defensive and offensive capabilities were already destroyed. He also stated that America would eventually take control of Kharg Island and other oil infrastructure points, assuming total control of Iranian oil and gas markets.
The policy shift came after two consecutive nights of American military operations against Iranian targets and amid an escalating diplomatic push involving regional mediators and multiple United States allies, as reported by Breitbart News.
On Wednesday night, United States Central Command announced that American forces had conducted additional strikes targeting Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communications systems, and air defense installations. The command stated that the operation was executed under Trump’s orders as a response to what it characterized as Iran’s unwarranted and continued aggression.
The apparent diplomatic breakthrough followed negotiations that extended late into Wednesday night in Tehran between Qatari mediators and Iranian officials.
Qatari envoy Ali Al-Thawadi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi worked through the night to resolve remaining differences between Washington and Tehran, with negotiators reportedly believing they had achieved an agreed text acceptable to all sides, Breitbart News reports.
Outstanding issues centered on the mechanism for releasing frozen Iranian assets, arrangements for reopening the Strait of Hormuz during a proposed sixty-day ceasefire period, and the framework for negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program during that timeframe.
Iranian officials informed several countries Thursday that an agreement in principle had been reached, though Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei still needed to provide final approval at the time of those communications.
Trump’s announcement indicates that approval has now been obtained, though Tehran has not immediately released a public statement confirming the president’s claims.
If finalized, the agreement would mark the most significant diplomatic breakthrough since the conflict began, while maintaining the United States naval blockade until the deal’s terms are formally signed and implemented.
