Trump: Board of Peace Reaches Deal to Disarm Hamas in Gaza

Trump characterized the development as a monumental step toward lasting peace and security in the Middle East, according to David Zimmermann writing in Washington Examiner. The announcement signals a major shift in Gaza’s security landscape following months of diplomatic efforts.

Donald Trump took to Truth Social to outline the significance of the disarmament accord, emphasizing that it represents a pivotal moment in implementing his administration’s 20-point plan for the region.

The president explained that the agreement will enable Gaza to transition to governance under a new Palestinian administration working in coordination with the Board of Peace to serve the Palestinian population. Simultaneously, Israel would achieve the security guarantees it requires, with Gaza no longer functioning as a launching point for terrorist operations.

Implementation of the disarmament will proceed through carefully structured phases, Trump specified. As weapons are surrendered and the disarmament process reaches completion, Israeli military forces will execute a withdrawal from the territory. An International Stabilization Force will then collaborate with a newly formed Palestinian police service to assume responsibility for maintaining security in Gaza for both residents and neighboring states.

The breakthrough follows Trump’s October ceasefire and peace framework between Israel and Hamas. While that initial agreement halted active hostilities, the Palestinian terrorist organization had not immediately begun dismantling its military capabilities.

Earlier this month, Hamas dissolved its own governing structures in Gaza to facilitate the installation of a new administrative panel previously approved by the Board of Peace, which operates under Trump’s chairmanship.

Trump publicly acknowledged the mediating roles played by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey in facilitating the disarmament negotiations.

The president issued a firm warning that the threat Hamas posed on October 7 would not be permitted to reconstitute itself. Under the terms of the agreement, Gaza will finally be administered by a new Palestinian government dedicated to serving its people rather than pursuing armed conflict.
