Trump Blasts Artists Dropping Freedom 250 Concert as ‘Third Rate
President Trump announced plans to replace a troubled inaugural concert series with a rally after several performers withdrew, claiming they were misled about the event's political nature.
In a characteristically bold Truth Social post, Trump dismissed the departing acts as third rate artists while floating the idea of headlining the event himself, according to New York Post.
The president described himself as someone who draws larger crowds than Elvis Presley in his prime, suggesting he would deliver a major speech to rally the nation forward as he has done since taking office.
New York Post reports that Trump’s statement took direct aim at highly-paid entertainers who backed out of the Freedom 250 concert series, originally scheduled to run from June 25 to July 10.
Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, Morris Day & The Time, Young MC, and The Commodores each announced their withdrawal from the multi-week event in recent days.
The president made clear he has no interest in working with performers who are unhappy, stating he only wants to be surrounded by what he called happy, smart, successful people who know how to win. He described the United States as having transformed from being virtually dead two years ago to now being the hottest country anywhere in the world.
Trump directed his representatives to examine the possibility of hosting an America Is Back Rally on Wednesday at the same Washington location, exclusively for what he termed great patriots. The event would be a celebration of the nation, he stated.
Artists Claim Deception
Each departing performer cited similar reasons for pulling out, alleging they were deceived about the event’s partisan nature.
McBride posted on Instagram that she had been presented with what she believed was a nonpartisan performance opportunity, but that characterization proved misleading.
Young MC claimed artists received no information about political involvement with the event in his Instagram statement. The rapper later described the situation as a bait-and-switch operation when speaking with Rolling Stone.
The former Poison frontman Michaels told fans his decision stemmed from the event evolving into something far more divisive than what he originally agreed to join. He also revealed that he and his band received threats following their initial commitment to perform.
Remaining Lineup
Despite the exodus of performers, Vanilla Ice and Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli remain confirmed for the concert series. Rapper Flo Rida has yet to publicly address whether he intends to honor his performance commitment.
The president’s announcement did not clarify why June 3 was selected as the potential date for the replacement rally event.
