Top ‘90210’ Producer Charles Rosin Fights Back Against Left
Veteran TV producer Charles Rosin faces racism accusations from activists after opposing a Los Angeles homeless housing project costing $2.5 million per unit, which he says stems from policy concerns.
Charles Rosin, whose credits include producing “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Dawson’s Creek,” has become the target of a character assassination campaign by social justice warriors after he opposed a controversial housing project carrying a jaw-dropping price tag of $2.5 million per unit, according to New York Post.
The 74-year-old producer joined fellow residents in filing a lawsuit against Venice Community Housing’s proposed 120-unit homeless housing block, citing excessive taxpayer costs, environmental concerns, and alleged procedural violations in the approval process. The development, first proposed a decade ago, has since been halted.
Activists Deploy Racism Accusations
Far-left City Council candidate Faizah Malik and Venice Community Housing filed suit against the city two years ago, demanding the project move forward. Their legal filing accused Mayor Karen Bass, City Attorney Heidi Feldstein Soto, and Councilmember Traci Park of capitulating to a “well-resourced, predominantly white minority” opposed to the development.
Court documents obtained by New York Post reveal that organizations backing the housing project portrayed Rosin as a “bigoted puppet master,” claiming his opposition stemmed from the fact that people of color proposed the project and it would primarily serve communities of color.
The activists recently subpoenaed Rosin, demanding all his communications related to the matter.
Producer Fires Back at “Devastating” Smear Campaign
Rosin is now taking the fight directly back to his accusers, dismantling the bigotry allegations and making clear his opposition rests entirely on policy and land use grounds.
The producer highlighted the impossible position these tactics create for citizens who engage in policy debates. He noted he has been forced to expend personal resources defending himself against baseless racism charges despite nothing in his life history suggesting such views.
Rosin warned that weaponizing character assassination against private citizens who participate in local policy fights sets a dangerous precedent. He questioned why anyone would get involved in addressing tough policy issues if the consequence is having their reputation destroyed.
Coalition Cites Safety and Cost Concerns
Rosin serves as one of three directors of the Coalition for Safe Coastal Development, a volunteer neighborhood organization established in 2021 to mount legal and public opposition to the Venice Dell project.
The coalition’s objections focus on flooding risks, tsunami hazards, traffic congestion, parking elimination, beach access restrictions, and skyrocketing taxpayer costs. In January, coalition members warned the development represents a “boondoggle under the guise of community benefit” with potential costs reaching $233 million.
Rosin’s attorney Christian Wrede told the outlet that the racism accusation became the basis for an aggressive subpoena campaign targeting his client and the small volunteer-run organization. He explained that activists theorized the coalition represented the core of a group of homeless-hating white racists who somehow manipulated the city’s leadership into blocking the project.
Widespread Opposition Beyond Single Group
Public records demonstrate the project faces opposition far broader than just Rosin’s coalition. The Venice Neighborhood Council has formally opposed the development, while the Los Angeles Department of Transportation has raised liability concerns.
Notably, some prominent black Venice families also objected to having their names associated with the project and requested their removal.
Malik, who served as one of the lead attorneys on the original lawsuit pushing for the Venice Dell development, entered the 2025 City Council race against Park. The housing project has become a central campaign issue. She stated she has been ethically walled off from the case since filing to run for office to protect its integrity.
