Three-Time Deported Illegal Kills NC Girl, 6, in Crash
A repeat illegal border crosser with a revoked license killed a six-year-old girl and injured her mother and sibling in a North Carolina crash after running a stop sign, authorities said.
Jaime Santiago Corona, an unlawfully present Mexican national who had been deported multiple times, was behind the wheel of a Dodge Ram pickup on July 3 when he ran a stop sign in Pitt County and slammed into an SUV carrying 35-year-old Kelli Toler and her two young children, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The collision claimed the life of six-year-old Calli Toler, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother and four-year-old sibling were rushed to ECU Health Greenville with severe injuries.
According to an online fundraiser established for the family, the mother and her children had been on their way to lunch before heading to a swimming pool when the crash occurred.
Lauren Bis, acting Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, condemned the incident in stark terms, as reported by New York Post. This monster caused a car crash that killed a 6-year-old girl, she stated, adding that the tragedy was entirely preventable.
Corona faces charges including misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to stop at a stop sign, careless and reckless driving, and driving while license revoked. Authorities revealed he had illegally reentered the United States three times—a felony offense—and maintains a history of driving under the influence.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued a detainer hold on Corona. The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Fox News that it will cooperate fully with federal immigration authorities.
