PiS
About
Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, PiS) was founded in 2001 by twin brothers Lech and Jarosław Kaczyński. From 2015 to 2023 it governed Poland, implementing sweeping judicial reforms that triggered protracted conflict with the European Commission. PiS combined generous social welfare expansion with conservative cultural policies on abortion, LGBT rights, and religious education. It lost the 2023 parliamentary elections to a broad coalition led by Donald Tusk.
Wikipedia ↗Leadership
Jarosław Kaczyński is the undisputed chief of PiS and the central figure of Polish national-conservative politics. Born in 1949, he co-founded the party with his twin brother Lech, who died in the Smolensk air disaster of April 2010. Jarosław typically governs from behind the scenes as party chairman rather than head of government, wielding influence over PiS ministers without holding executive office himself.
