Dansk Folkeparti
About
Dansk Folkeparti (Danish People's Party, DF) was founded in 1995 by Pia Kjærsgaard as a populist breakaway from the Progress Party. For two decades it wielded significant influence from parliamentary support positions, pushing Denmark toward some of Europe's strictest immigration policies without formally entering government. Electoral setbacks in 2019 and 2022 reduced the party's parliamentary presence sharply, though it retains seats in the Folketing and the European Parliament.
Wikipedia ↗Leadership
Morten Messerschmidt has chaired DF since 2022. A veteran MEP and longstanding figure in Danish right-wing politics, he is known for sharp rhetoric on immigration and Danish sovereignty. His leadership has focused on rebuilding the party's electoral standing after a period of steep decline.
