‘Supernatural’ Star Misha Collins ‘Deeply Ashamed’ of America
Former Supernatural star Misha Collins argued Republicans should embrace transgender activism as a conservative principle, though critics note the movement demands government funding and legal mandates.
Collins, who portrayed the character Castiel across 148 episodes of the supernatural drama series from 2008 to 2020, published a YouTube video lamenting what he describes as the erosion of transgender “rights” in America during Pride Month, according to Breitbart News.
The actor claimed he recently engaged in discussions about strategies to convert Republican voters to support transgender causes rather than dismissing them as politically unreachable.
In his video remarks, Collins attempted to frame transgender activism through a conservative lens, suggesting Republicans should support it based on their traditional principles of limited government interference. He pointed to what he characterized as longstanding GOP positions opposing government overreach and defending personal freedoms from censorship.
Collins argued that transgender issues represent an opportunity for conservatives to apply their stated philosophy of individual liberty and government non-interference, questioning why such matters have not become what he termed a conservative rallying point.
The reality, however, contradicts Collins’ characterization. Contemporary transgender activism extends far beyond simply requesting government non-interference. The movement actively demands taxpayer funding for elective cosmetic medical procedures, legal penalties for individuals who decline to use preferred pronouns or chosen names, unrestricted access to sex-segregated facilities including women’s restrooms and prison units, and mandatory pro-transgender curriculum in public education systems.
In his YouTube video description, Collins wrote that Americans should feel “deeply ashamed” during Pride Month, particularly regarding what he describes as governmental attacks on transgender individuals.
He cited the removal of transgender service members from military positions, passport documentation changes that he claims effectively ban international travel for some Americans, and what he characterized as presidential rhetoric contributing to increased hate crimes against the transgender community.
Collins also referenced state-level legislative actions, including a Kansas measure he claims immediately invalidated driver’s licenses for transgender individuals, preventing them from legally operating vehicles to reach motor vehicle offices for license updates. He described these developments as part of systematic oppression targeting transgender Americans’ rights, freedoms, and personal safety.
The video featured interviews with transgender activists Erin Reed and Zooey Zephyr, the latter serving as an elected representative in the Montana State Legislature.
