Socialist Burnham Becomes UK PM, Unveils Decade-Long Plan
Andy Burnham became Britain's seventh Prime Minister in a decade after Keir Starmer resigned following economic failures, border chaos, and the Epstein files scandal.
The veteran Westminster operator turned Manchester Mayor officially assumed power after the traditional audience with King Charles III, becoming the fifth British leader to take office in less than four years, according to Breitbart News.

Starmer’s government failed to restart economic growth while imposing the highest tax burden since the Second World War. Border security collapsed under his watch, with over 70,000 illegal migrants crossing the English Channel during his tenure—more than any modern Prime Minister.
A Government Marred From the Start
The Starmer administration bungled its response to the Southport massacre, in which a Rwandan-heritage teenager stabbed three young girls to death and injured ten others at a Taylor Swift dance party. Starmer appeared more focused on condemning so-called far-right rioters than the perpetrator himself.
The real turning point came last autumn when the Trump administration released the Epstein files. The documents revealed that Starmer’s Washington ambassador, Peter “Prince of Darkness” Mandelson, maintained close ties with the convicted sex offender long after his first child prostitution conviction, as Breitbart News reports.
Starmer attempted to survive by sacrificing his longtime political ally and Chief of Staff Morgan McSweeney, architect of his rise to power. But no challenger wanted the job before Labour’s expected electoral bloodbath in May. Only after those crushing losses did the self-described socialist Manchester Mayor finally step forward.
The King of the North Takes Power
Burnham met King Charles III Monday morning for the traditional kissing hands ceremony, in which the Monarch officially invited him to form a government.
In his first address outside Number 10, the new Prime Minister acknowledged the political turmoil surrounding his rise. I am acutely conscious that I am the seventh Prime Minister since 2016, he said, promising that Britain would regain its stability.
Burnham pitched himself as an economic reformer pledging to spread prosperity beyond London throughout the country. He promised to take power out of Westminster and distribute it across Britain, placing essential services under stronger public control to make them affordable again.
Westminster Insider in Northern Clothing
Despite his folksy King of the North persona cultivated during nearly a decade as Greater Manchester Mayor, Burnham spent the previous decade as a Westminster insider under former Labour Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. His northern charm appears to be a carefully constructed political image.
His path to power carries the distinct scent of swamp politics. To challenge Starmer, Burnham needed a House of Commons seat. The Makerfield constituency was conveniently vacated by anti-Breitbart activist MP Josh Simons, who had been forced from the Starmer government over scandals involving his pro-censorship activities at the Labour Together think tank—itself founded by McSweeney.
Simons appeared outside Downing Street Monday morning for Burnham’s coronation and is reportedly set for a senior government position in exchange for surrendering his seat. His return to power likely signals continued social media crackdowns and potential platform bans ahead.
Whether Burnham’s northern charm can address Britain’s core priorities—economic growth, border security, and restoring public trust—remains an open question. For now, Westminster’s political churn has produced yet another leader promising change while surrounded by the same establishment faces.
