Socialism Pushed Despite ‘Chronic Failure Everywhere’: Benson

Speaking on Fox Business’s Varney & Co. on Thursday, Guy Benson, a columnist for Washington Examiner, highlighted the anti-American rhetoric embraced by many of the socialist candidates who swept Tuesday’s primaries, according to Washington Examiner.

Benson argued that these candidates are not merely proposing failed economic policies, but are doing so while harboring deep hostility toward the United States itself. These people want to try to impose an ideology and an economic system that has chronically failed everywhere that it has been tried, Benson stated, adding that they simultaneously espouse disdain or outright contempt for America.

New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has emerged as a central figure in this movement. Political analysts have labeled him a “kingmaker” after several progressive candidates he endorsed secured victories in Tuesday’s primary contests across New York.

Benson cautioned that the open contempt these socialist candidates display toward the country may prove to be a strategic miscalculation when facing voters nationwide. He expressed skepticism about whether such anti-American messaging would resonate beyond deep-blue urban districts.

The conservative columnist pointed to progressive online streamer Hasan Piker as emblematic of the ideology now gaining traction within Democratic ranks. Benson cited Piker’s public statements boasting about his lack of patriotic feelings for America, his regret that the Soviet Union lost the Cold War, and his assertion that the United States deserved the September 11 terrorist attacks.

In a separate segment during the same Fox Business appearance, Benson discussed foreign visitors attending the FIFA World Cup in the United States. He noted that international soccer fans are discovering what makes America exceptional, contrasting their enthusiasm with the negativity expressed by socialist political candidates.

Benson remarked that foreign soccer fans are reminding Americans of what makes the nation unique, extraordinary, and special. He found it ironic that visitors from abroad are serving as a counterbalance to domestic politicians who refuse to acknowledge American exceptionalism.

The recent primary results in New York have fueled speculation about the future direction of the Democratic Party, with figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez potentially eyeing higher office in 2028. The socialist wing’s growing influence has created internal tensions as moderate Democrats struggle to maintain relevance in an increasingly radicalized party structure.
