Silence Emboldens Political Islam Seeking Subjugation: Left

Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini spent his weekend addressing transport strikes and pension reform while criticizing EU policies he blames for Italy's cost of living crisis.

The leader of the League met with Ferrovie dello Stato Group CEO Donnarumma to discuss upcoming intercity service tenders, over which a new strike has been called for June 11, according to il Giornale. Salvini is working to prevent the strike, considering workers’ demands reasonable. In his capacity as party leader, he also convened Economy Minister Giorgetti and Labor Undersecretary Durigon to study early retirement options before age 67 as an alternative to the Fornero law.

Speaking to il Giornale in casual attire while watching the Champions League final and preparing to water his tomatoes, lemons, and basil, Salvini addressed pressing national issues facing Italian households.

Cost of Living Crisis Driven by War

When asked what weighs most heavily on Italian pocketbooks today, Salvini pointed to daily living costs from groceries to utility bills to gasoline, largely caused by two ongoing wars. The government was among the first in Europe to act, cutting fuel excise taxes and blocking other increases, he said.

However, both the government and citizens are paying for Brussels’ obtuseness and slowness, which still prevents investment of billions needed to support struggling families and businesses. The European bureaucrats are already late, Salvini warned, and Italy will be forced to act alone to help those in need now. They cannot tell us to buy more weapons while simultaneously not spending money to block increases in bills and gasoline, he stated, calling the contradiction absurd.

Diplomacy, Not Arms, Will End Ukraine War

Regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine with continuous Russian raids, Salvini argued that peace requires two willing parties. Not only Putin but also Zelensky does not appear to be working for peace, he observed. After more than four years of conflict, sanctions and sending money and weapons have not stopped the fighting. Diplomacy will ultimately end hostilities, Salvini believes. Expelling or boycotting Russian artists, musicians, and athletes does not bring peace closer.

Armed Youth Gangs Spread Beyond Cities

On security concerns, the phenomenon of knife-wielding youth gangs has spread beyond degraded neighborhoods in major cities to provincial areas. Salvini outlined the government’s response, including new security regulations requested by the League that punish those carrying blades. Education Minister Valditara is working to install metal detectors in at-risk schools.

More is needed, however, including holding families accountable and punishing those who fail to supervise minors, as already being done with reimbursements for damages caused during school occupations. Unfortunately, for certain elements of the left, security remains taboo, Salvini noted. Many mayors of major cities including Milan, Bologna, Turin, and Modena refuse to give taser electric impulse weapons to municipal police agents, harming both officers and citizens who are left more defenseless.

Islamic Terrorism the Number One Danger

From the Modena attack to numerous other disturbing episodes, Italians demand answers on Islamic terrorism. For Salvini, this is primarily a cultural question. For too many years, the League was the only voice denouncing the risks of Islamic extremism and uncontrolled immigration, he said. The left has always denied or minimized these threats.

Even regarding the Modena attack, they attacked him rather than the criminal who mowed down the crowd as seen in too many Islamic attacks. For himself, for the League, and for the Patriots for Europe, terrorism and Islamic fanaticism are the number one public danger for Italy’s future and children. Political Islam is not in Italy or Europe to integrate but to occupy, conquer, and subjugate, Salvini warned.

Appropriate laws are needed, and beyond those already active, the League is working on others. But there is also clear awareness, he emphasized: those who remain silent are complicit.

Left Refuses to Admit Decades of Policy Failure

Asked why Italy lacks a culture of national unity on citizen security, with the left always rushing to distinguish or minimize serious crimes to avoid accusations of Islamophobia or repressive culture, Salvini explained that the left refuses to admit wrong policies pursued for decades. They preached indiscriminate welcome and a totally failed integration model. They voted in Parliament to send him to trial and hoped until the end to see him imprisoned for years because he closed the ports, as il Giornale reports. They are obtuse and reckless, he concluded.
